Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
My name is Nic McNamara and I am a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. I have over 22 years experience of working with autistic children and adults.
I have worked in educational settings, community teams and specialist secure inpatient provision. I have spent the last 12 years working in the NHS in a forensic community team for autistic adults, some of whom also have additional learning needs, where I am the clinical lead for autism. This is a multi-disciplinary team which aims to support vulnerable people who are involved in the criminal justice system. Many of the people I work with have additional mental health needs.
I also set up my own company ‘Autism Empowered’ in April 2022, offering post-diagnostic support to autistic people and their families. I am an autism diagnostician, working in partnership with a number of autism diagnostic teams within independent practice. I am trained to use the ADOS-2, ADI-R and DISCO diagnostic tools.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
